Why a 3 compartment sink
Health codes require a three compartment sink for washing dishes by hand: one bowl to wash, one to rinse and one to sanitize. Even kitchens with a dish machine usually need one for pots, pans and equipment that will not fit the machine.
How to choose
Bowl size
Each bowl should be big enough to fully submerge your largest pot or sheet pan. Common sizes are 10" x 14", 14" x 16", 18" x 18" and 24" x 24". Bowl depth matters too: 12" to 14" deep is standard for pots.
Drainboards
Drainboards give dirty and clean dishes a place to land. A left drainboard for dirty and a right drainboard for clean (or both) keeps the workflow moving in one direction. Models like the S3C-181812-RL-NF (90" x 24") and S3C-242414-RL-NF (120" x 30") have drainboards on both sides; the S3C-181812-NF (59") and S3C-141612-NF (47") have none.
Overall length
Measure the wall. Bowl size and drainboards together set the overall length, from about 36" for a compact drop-in to 120" for a full dish station.
Faucet and accessories
Most sinks need a faucet with 8" centers, and a pre-rinse faucet saves time at the scrap end. Check each listing to see what is included.

Frequently asked questions
Why do restaurants need a 3 compartment sink?
Most health codes require three bowls for manual dishwashing: wash, rinse and sanitize. Even kitchens with a dish machine usually keep one for pots and large items.
What bowl size do I need?
Fit your largest pot or sheet pan in a bowl. 18 x 18 in. bowls suit most kitchens; 20 x 20 in. or larger handle stock pots and sheet pans. Drainboards on one or both sides give dirty and clean dishes a place to sit.
Are they NSF certified?
Yes. The sinks in this category are NSF certified.
Do you sell 1 and 2 compartment sinks?
Yes. See our 2 compartment sinks, 1 compartment sinks and hand sinks.
Is freight included?
Yes. Freight and liftgate delivery are included on every order to the continental United States, with nothing added at checkout.
