How to choose a merchandiser

Glass door or open air

Glass doors hold temperature and use less energy, so they suit drinks and packaged goods that customers pick out deliberately. Open air coolers remove the door completely and sell more on impulse, which is why they sit at the front of stores and by registers. They use more energy and need a store with controlled air conditioning.

Refrigerator, freezer or dual temperature

Choose a merchandiser freezer for ice cream, frozen meals and ice. The Coldline ISLAND-DT models switch between refrigerated and frozen, which helps if your product mix changes with the seasons.

Size and doors

A one-door unit (about 21" to 30" wide) fits a small cafe or checkout. Two and three door models (about 47" to 80") make a full display wall. Sliding doors suit narrow aisles where swing doors would block traffic.
