A commercial faucet is not a residential faucet with a bigger spout. It has to handle hundreds of cycles a day, hot water, heavy pots and staff who are in a hurry. Picking the right one starts with the sink it goes on and the job it does. Here is how to choose.
Start with the Mounting and Centers
Measure your sink before anything else. Commercial faucets are either deck mounted, on top of the sink rim, or wall mounted, into the backsplash or wall. Then measure the center-to-center distance between the two holes. The most common spacings are 4 inch centers, found on many hand sinks, and 8 inch centers, found on compartment and prep sinks. A faucet with the wrong centers will not fit without modification.

Spout Style and Length
Gooseneck spouts give height to fill pitchers and buckets. Swing spouts move between compartments of a two or three compartment sink. Measure from the faucet to the center of each bowl. The spout should reach the far bowl. Wok range faucets are designed to mount near wok stations and fill woks quickly.

Pre-Rinse Units
A pre-rinse assembly has a spring and a spray valve that blasts food off plates before they go into the dish machine. It usually mounts at the dish table or a pre-rinse sink. Many models add a swing spout for filling.

Hands-Free Controls
Hand sinks benefit from hands-free controls, so staff do not touch dirty handles after washing. Knee valves and foot pedals let staff turn water on without hands. They are useful in busy kitchens and some operators prefer them at hand sinks.

Service Sinks and Drains
Mop and service sinks need a faucet with a hose connection or bucket hook and often a vacuum breaker. Compartment sinks need drains that hold water while washing. Lever waste drains let staff open and close the drain without reaching into dirty water.

Code and Installation
Backflow prevention, hot water temperature at hand sinks and lead content rules are set by plumbing codes and health departments. Have a licensed plumber install your faucets and confirm local requirements.
Questions to Ask Before You Buy
- Is the faucet deck or wall mounted?
- What are the hole centers, 4 inch or 8 inch?
- How long does the spout need to be to reach every bowl?
- Do I need a pre-rinse unit at the dish area?
- Should the hand sink have hands-free controls?
- Does my sink need new waste drains too?
Keep a Spare Parts Habit
Faucets fail at the worst moment, usually a drip that turns into a stream on a Saturday. Keep a note of each faucet’s model and hole centers in your maintenance log. Replace worn cartridges and spray valves early. A leaking pre-rinse valve wastes hot water every minute it runs.
