Blender Station vs Mixology Station: Which One Does Your Bar Need

Both are 22 by 18 inch stainless underbar stations with a sink and a faucet, and from across the room they look alike. They are built for different drinks. One is for frozen and blended drinks, the other for shaken and stirred cocktails.

Choose the blender station if

  • Frozen margaritas, daiquiris, smoothies or milkshakes are a real part of your sales.
  • You need the blender at working height with a sink right beside it for rinsing the jar between drinks.
  • You want the blender off the back bar, where its noise and mess are closer to the customer.

Choose the mixology station if

  • Most of your drinks are shaken, stirred or built in the glass.
  • You want to rinse a glass in a second without leaving the station.
  • Your bartenders use spoons, jiggers and scoops that need running water between uses.

Do you need both

A bar with a full cocktail list and a frozen drink menu often runs one of each: the mixology station at the main well and the blender station at the end of the bar, where blender noise bothers fewer guests. Because both are 22 inches wide and 18 inches deep, they line up with each other and with other 18 inch deep underbar equipment.

Blender station or mixology station

A blender station gives the bartender a shelf for blenders and a small dump sink with a faucet to rinse jars between drinks. It fits bars that sell a lot of frozen drinks and smoothies.

A mixology station puts an ice bin, a glass rinser and a work surface in one unit, so cocktails are built in one spot without walking to a separate sink.

If the menu mixes both, many bars run one of each side by side, with the blender station closest to the outlets.

Before you order

  • Measure the depth under your bar. Both stations need 18 inches.
  • Check for a water supply and a drain at the position. The mixology station also needs a feed for the glass rinser.
  • Plan an outlet for the blender, on a circuit that can carry it.
  • Ask your local health department whether a separate hand sink is required nearby.
