Glass Rack Storage Cabinet with Drip Tray (GSC-2224): Specs and Buying Guide

The GSC-2224 is a 24 in. wide underbar cabinet with an embossed drip tray top for drying washed glasses and an open front with shelves for storing glass racks below. It suits bars that wash glassware at the bar and need one spot to dry glasses and park racks without using counter space.

Below are the specifications from the product page, how to check that your racks fit, what plumbing it needs, and how it compares with our other commercial glass rack storage unit option, the GRSC-2224 with rack slides.

GSC-2224 specifications

  • Width: 24 in.
  • Depth: 22.5 in.
  • Height: 33 in., without backsplash
  • Material: 20 gauge stainless steel
  • Top: embossed drip tray with dual drains
  • Storage: open front, 1 adjustable mid shelf and 1 base shelf
  • Feet: adjustable bullet feet
  • Approval: NSF certified

How it works behind the bar

Washed glasses come out of the three compartment sink or glass washer and go upside down on the drip tray top. Water runs off the embossed surface to the drains instead of pooling on the bar floor. Below the top, glass racks slide in from the open front onto the mid shelf and base shelf, so clean glasses can be stored in the same racks they were washed in.

The Food Code, as adopted in Virginia (12VAC5-421-1960), calls for washed and sanitized utensils to be air dried rather than towel dried. Your local health department has the final say on how it applies that at the bar. A drip tray top gives glasses a place to air dry next to the sink.

Will my glass racks fit?

The product page says standard 20 x 20 in. glass racks are common, and asks buyers to call with their rack size to confirm the fit. Before you order:

  • Measure the length, width and height of your racks, including any extenders.
  • Check the height between the mid shelf and the base shelf at the setting you plan to use.
  • Measure the opening under your bar, including the height under the bar top.

Plumbing and placement

The drip tray drains need a drain connection, so plan the line before the cabinet arrives. Common practice is to place the cabinet beside the wash sink or at the clean end of the drainboard, so glasses travel the shortest path from sanitizer to drying to storage. Level it with the bullet feet so the tray drains properly.

GSC-2224 or GRSC-2224?

We carry two underbar glass rack cabinets. From their product pages:

  • GSC-2224: 24 W x 22.5 D x 33 H in., 20 gauge stainless, embossed drip tray top with dual drains, open front with an adjustable mid shelf and a base shelf.
  • GRSC-2224: 22.5 D x 24 W x 30 H in., 20 gauge type 304 stainless top, back, sides and bottom shelf, corrugated top with a 3 in. backsplash, two sets of adjustable 18 gauge L-shaped rack slides, two 1 in. IPS copper drains (top and bottom shelf), a 3 in. plumbing hole in the back panel, 57 lbs.

Choose the GSC-2224 for open shelves you can load from the front and adjust for rack height. Choose the GRSC-2224 if you want racks to slide in on rails and need a lower 30 in. height or a second drain at the bottom shelf.

Where it fits in a bar layout

A typical wash run behind a bar, as common practice, goes: dirty glass drop, three compartment sink, clean drainboard, then glass storage. Pair the cabinet with our bar sinks and keep a hand sink separate from the wash run. For stations at each bartender position, see cocktail stations.

Care

Wipe the drip tray top and drains daily so they do not collect lime and residue, and keep the shelves dry. Check that the drains run freely; a blocked drain will overflow the tray onto the floor.

Next steps

Freight to the 48 contiguous states is included in the price, and as a non-powered item the cabinet has a 14 day return window from delivery. See all bar equipment for back bar and underbar pieces.

Before you order

  • Measure the space and the doorways on the delivery path.
  • Check the steel type and gauge in the specifications against how hard the piece will be used.
  • Compare the weight capacity with what you plan to put on it.
  • Many stainless tables, shelves and racks ship flat and need simple assembly.

Common mistakes to avoid

Common mistakes include choosing by price without checking the steel gauge, overloading shelves, and forgetting to measure doorways and aisles before a long table arrives.

Care and maintenance

  • Wipe stainless with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth, following the grain.
  • Avoid steel wool and chloride cleaners, which can mark the surface.
  • Check and tighten leg and shelf fasteners from time to time.
