Our countertop charbroilers run from a 12 in. single burner unit to 60 in. five burner models, in radiant and char-rock styles from five brands. Choose the style for the flavor and upkeep you want, the width for your menu, and then compare BTU per burner rather than only the total.
The full list of models is below this guide, with links to each page.
Radiant or char-rock
Radiant charbroilers heat steel radiants under cast iron grates. Drippings hit the radiants and vaporize, which adds flavor and gives grill marks with fairly even heat. Char-rock broilers heat a bed of lava rock instead; drippings flare and smoke on the rock, which gives a stronger grilled taste but needs the rock looked after. Our article on what a char-rock broiler is explains the trade-offs. Browse the char-rock broilers on their own.
Width and burners
Every model below uses one burner for each section of the top, so width and burner count go together.
- 12 to 16 in., one burner: the Standard Range SR-CB12-M (12 in., 35,000 BTU) and the Westlake ECB-16S (16 in., 30,000 BTU). For a short line, a food truck or a char station next to a griddle.
- 24 in., two burners: Cookline CCB-24 and Westlake ECB-24S at 60,000 BTU; Migali C-RB24, Standard Range SR-CB24-M and Dukers DCCB24 at 70,000 BTU.
- 36 in., three burners: Cookline CCB-36 and Westlake ECB-36S at 90,000 BTU; Migali C-RB36, Standard Range SR-CB36-M and Dukers DCCB36 at 105,000 BTU.
- 48 in., four burners: Cookline CCB-48 and Westlake ECB-48S at 120,000 BTU; Migali C-RB48, Standard Range SR-CB48-M and Dukers DCCB48 at 140,000 BTU.
- 60 in., five burners: Cookline CCB-60 and Westlake ECB-60S at 150,000 BTU.
Char-rock: the Migali C-CR24, C-CR36 and C-CR48 run 70,000, 105,000 and 140,000 BTU and take lava rock or charcoal briquettes. Dukers also makes a 24, 36 and 48 in. gas char-rock charbroiler.
Electric: the Cookline LG2-E is a 26 in. electric char-broiler for kitchens without gas.
Comparing BTU fairly
The brands split into two groups: Cookline and Westlake use 30,000 BTU burners, while Migali, Standard Range and Dukers use 35,000 BTU burners. More BTU per section means faster recovery when a cold steak hits the grate. It also uses more gas and adds to the load on your gas line and hood. Our guide to BTU for commercial cooking equipment explains what the number means.
Cooking area
Width tells you less than the cooking surface. The Dukers pages list it: 23.86 x 20.47 in. on the DCCB24, 35.83 x 20.47 in. on the DCCB36 and 47.83 x 20.47 in. on the DCCB48, on units 28 3/4 in. deep. Check the cooking surface on each model’s page against how many steaks or patties you need on the grate at your busiest moment.
Zones and control
On models whose pages list a control per burner, such as the Cookline, Westlake and Migali units, a 36 in. charbroiler can run one hot zone for searing, one medium zone and one low zone for holding or vegetables. On a slow shift, run only the sections you need.
Fuel
Check each page for natural gas and propane versions, and order the fuel you have; a licensed gas fitter makes the connection. Compare the gas models in our gas charbroilers range.
What it sits on
A countertop charbroiler needs a stable base made for cooking equipment. Our stainless grill and equipment stand with undershelf has an 18 gauge stainless top with a lip on three sides, and more options are in our equipment stands. Leave the clearance to walls and other equipment the manual calls for, and install it under a hood sized by your hood designer and local code.
Availability
At the time of writing, the Migali C-RB48 and C-CR48 are out of stock and the Cookline CCB-24 is on backorder; each page shows current stock.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying by total BTU without checking the burner count and width.
- Choosing char-rock without planning for rock upkeep.
- Setting a charbroiler on a table not meant for cooking equipment.
- Ordering natural gas for a propane kitchen, or the reverse.
Frequently asked questions

Grates and crumb trays, yes. Char-rock units also need the rock turned and replaced as the manual directs.
